Saturday, December 6, 2014: The Brooding Princess

Morning wakeup started around 5:00 this morning. Tommy jumped up about every 10-15 minutes to see if it was time.  When the heat pump started Tommy was still just sitting on the bed near me. Usually she’d be already heading toward the kitchen right before it went on, so I wondered how long it would be until she roused me from bed.  She didn’t take long; it was about 20 seconds.
Once fed, Tommy went back to the bedroom while I headed to the study to work on posting. I needed to get a lot accomplished this morning because I was going to the UW-Marquette game and then had a family birthday party to attend, but Tommy had other ideas.
After finishing my morning Tommy chores and making coffee, when I went back to the study, Tommy was blocking the hall entry way. When I got close, she ran under a dining chair, flopped on her back, and stated pawing the chair. This told me that it was play time.
We spent quite a long time playing. Tommy and I used the fleece teaser, the small feather bundle and the worm. I hadn’t seen her this engaged in a while, so it was worth the time spent. She knows that she always wins when it’s a choice between Tommy time and computer time. She may be a little spoiled but she’s worth it. A couple of my friends have teased me and said that when they die they want to come back as Tommy.
Once we finished playing I got ready and left. I wouldn’t be home until dinner, so Tommy was on her own. UW won the game, I got to talk to Josh’s family and Patrick, another former student, but needed to get to Racine for my goddaughter’s birthday party, so I couldn’t see Josh. I’ll see him after the UWM game on Wednesday.
After the party, I returned home. It was later than I expected and someone was very hungry (although she had dry food in two places around the condo). I quickly put out her food and even though it was still chilled, she ate a little. I think she just wanted to make sure that I didn’t forget.
The rest of the evening Tommy finished her meal and got some attention although it was less than I would have liked. It seemed that the princess ruling over Castle Potter was not happy. She did at one point sit on the sofa with me, but that was only for a fleeting moment until she realized that I wanted to pet her.
She spent some time on her bungalow, but when I went to go to bed, she left. She went to the living room, but I didn’t hear her playing, so I guess that she was brooding. I doubted that she would sleep in the bedroom.  Oh well, her choice. I’m sure that I’ll see her when she wants her breakfast in the morning.
