I woke up around 3:00 and saw that Tommy wasn’t curled up in
her usual spot on the bed. I went and found her sound asleep curled up on the
fleece on the sofa. I guess she either
wore herself out and then fell asleep or just needed a change a scene. I went
back to bed knowing that she’d jump on the bed later when she was hungry.
Sure enough, a little after 6:00 I woke up when I heard Tommy
by the bed. She jumped up to check in and when she found out that I wasn’t
getting up, she jumped down and went back in to the living room. She reappeared around 6:30, but this time
stuck around to get some attention. When the heat pump kicked in she jumped
down and waited for me in the kitchen. She knew that it was time for breakfast.
After breakfast it was time to continue t putting up the
holiday decorations. Tommy was a huge help, checking out everything to make
sure that it passed the smell test! As small bags and tissue paper were left on
the floor as I unpacked items, Tommy had a great time running through the pile
and at times hiding in the midst of the mess.
Of course Tommy also had to supervise where items were
displayed. She would go up to the sofa table and check out the latest addition.
She checked out every Lego item to make sure that it was okay. I was concerned
about the Lego items because little pieces can break off, but after her initial
inspection, she didn’t seem to care about them. Still, I put many of them out
of her reach on shelves where she doesn’t go.
After that exhausting morning, Tommy curled up on the fleece
on the sofa and I sat next to her and read. It was a sunny day, so at times my
glasses would give her little balls of light with which to play. When she fell
asleep I headed in to the study to work. I know that when she wakes up and
wants to find me, she will.
When I finished enough paperwork, I went out to the living
room and saw that Tommy was still napping.
I got out her dinner to warm up and of course just as I finished, Tommy
woke up. Since she was in a docile mood I thought that this would be a good
time to brush her teeth. We accomplished
that task in record time. Although Tommy still doesn’t open her mouth without
some help, at least she didn’t try to escape or squirm.
With that finished, Tommy went and ate some grass and enjoyed
her treat. Since she’d be getting dinner
in a couple hours I knew that at least she’d be in a good mood before I left
for choir rehearsal. I went to look over some music and decided to play the
music on the speakers in the living room and rehearse. Tommy got to listen to
me singing my parts in all of the songs. I’m sure that she was glad when I
finished.
As a consolation, she got to eat a little earlier than
normal. After I took a shower, we ate.
When we finished, I did the dishes and got dressed to leave for choir. Tommy
stood in front of the wire cubbies in the closet. I know that she was a bit
skittish because she had miscalculated her jump a few weeks ago, but she cried,
so I picked her up and put her in her favorite spot. She’s going to have to jump down and next
time, she’s on her own.
She did jump down, I said good bye and headed out to choir
rehearsal. When I returned Tommy was
lounging on the sofa and didn’t even move when I returned. Once she saw the bags though she came over to
investigate.
We spent a quiet couple hours before bed. I made sure that we
had some play time and then I went off to bed.
Tommy came in and saw her fabric Noel ornament that I had hung on her
bungalow. She spent some time hitting it and watching it twirl. When she saw me
get in bed, she jumped down and went into the living room. I think we’re back
to sleeping in separate rooms. I’m sure that one of these days, she’ll again
curl up for the night on the bed.
