I woke up this morning around 5:00 and found Tommy asleep on
the bed near my feet. It felt good to have her back with me. Of course that also meant that she would know
every time I stirred and would think that it was time for breakfast. I swear
that girl would eat any time I put out her canned food, yet she barely touches
any of the dry food that is always available to her.
Once Tommy woke up we had our usual rounds of debate
concerning when I would finally get out of bed and feed her. Once the heat went
on, Tommy knew that it was definitely time and let me know that I’d better get
moving.
After she was fed I went to the study and printed out the
daily puzzles and worked on the posts. When I went back in to the kitchen to make
coffee, Tommy came in and sat by the counter near the refrigerator. That’s
where I keep her water carafe. She reminded me that I hadn’t given her fresh
water yet, so I got right on that task. Once the water chore was done, Tommy
retreated to the bedroom.
Later when I went to check on her I noticed that the water
dish had been moved a few inches toward the bungalow. I guess the princess
didn’t like the usual spot. After a little talking and petting I went out to
work on the posts and Tommy went back to whatever she was doing.
I needed to finish up quickly because I had another car
appointment. This is the third time in less than two months that I need to get
things fixed. We’re still working one tire, but this time I have proof of the
issue. There are also a couple other
hopefully small problems and an oil change, so I don’t know how long I’ll be
gone.
Tommy watched from the “loft” of the bungalow as I got out
clothes. I went and took a shower and when I returned there was Tommy sitting
on the ottoman in the living room. I needed to open the blinds and as I did it,
Tommy never moved. We’ve gotten better at the blind detail. I moved slower and
make less noise and Tommy understands that she doesn’t have to be afraid of the
blinds being opened. Another small step for “catdom” accomplished!
When I returned Tommy was ready for lunch. I got out the
wheat grass, but she seemed more interested in playing with it than eating
it. I decided to leave it out even after
she grew tired of playing with it. Later she came back and did actually eat
some. She also ate some of her dry food, so we were making progress.
We played again during part of the afternoon and Tommy also
helped me try on a couple shirts and pick one for tomorrow’s concert. When I
put the shirts on the chair to remind me in the morning to launder them, Tommy
went back and inspected them again and check out any lingering scents that she
hadn’t smelled.
Right before it was time for dinner I brushed Tommy’s teeth.
She was a little obstinate at first, but finally let me finish. I think she
knows that it’s going to happen and the longer she squirmed the longer it would
take. Once that was finished, Tommy got her dinner and she again ate about
three-fourths of her meal, saving a little for a later snack. We started
watching Peter Pan but Tommy chose to
go to the quiet of the bedroom. I wasn’t sure if she didn’t like the program or
when I was singing along with the show. Once the program was over she came
back, but couldn’t decide what she wanted to do.
We played for a while in between her hiding under the
shelves. I don’t know why she sometimes seemed so timid and skittish. After we
played with the fleece teaser ad the laser pointer, she finally called it quits
and went back to the bedroom.
I decided to work on my blogs. Usually that gets her to make
an appearance in the study. This time I completed all my writing, turned off
the lights and television and got ready for bed. Tommy was up on her bungalow. She
even let me say good night and pet her.
Once I was in bed, she bounded down and ran out into the
living room. Within a few minutes she
was back on her rug and then up on the bungalow. I’m not sure if she’ll end up sleeping all
night on the bungalow or curled up on the bed.
