I slept through the heat pump coming on, but I was awakened
by something wet on my nose. When I
opened my eyes, there was Tommy pushing her nose against my nose. Now that I
was awake Tommy let me know that I was shirking my duties and that she was
hungry.
After feeding her I went back to bed and turned on the Today
show. Tommy came back on the bed to investigate why I wasn’t in the study. I spent the next hour trying to sleep and
being interrupted about every 5-10 minutes by my concerned little girl. Once the phone rang and I talked to my mother
I knew that it was time to get up.
I completed the morning posting with some occasional
supervision. Tommy would either sit up on the desk or down on the floor and
watch me while I typed. Of course when
she was on the desk, she expected me to stop working and give her the attention
that she deserved which I did.
I had to go The Spice House and grocery store to pick up
supplies. When I returned Tommy was napping in the bedroom. I tried to coax her
out into the living room to enjoy the few minutes of sun. I finally picked her
up and took her to the living room. Once she was there she lounged in the sun
for the little time that it was out. She
went back to the bedroom once it was cloudy again.
I worked on baking the pfeffernusse cookies and when I
finished I went to the study to work on the diaries. I barely got started when
Tommy came in and joined me at the desk. After receiving some attention, she
went and sat at the front of the desk and stared at either the lamp or out the
window.
After a while Tommy got bored and went to nap for the
remainder of the morning and the early afternoon. Whenever I came into the
bedroom/bathroom area and she was awake, she raised her head up to let me know
that either she wanted attention or that I’d disturbed her nap. Either way, I went over and made sure that I
talked to her and petted her.
Once I finished the afternoon baking, I went to take a
shower. Tommy knew that I was leaving and just kept watching me. Because I was
going to a late afternoon movie, I decided to feed Tommy a little early; better
to be 1-2 hours early than 1-2 hours late.
I left some lights on and made sure that she had plenty of food and
water before I left.
When I got home around 9:30, Tommy was glad to see me, but
let me know that she had missed her time in the study. (It wasn’t my fault that
she had napped for so long!) I showed her the gifts that she would be giving
the youngest members of our family, but she didn’t seem interested. We spent some time with her pushing her head
under my hands and arms. She also got to munch on her grass since she hadn’t
had any during the day.
I went out to the living room to watch the news and Tommy stayed
in the study. I tried to stay up, but I needed to go to bed. I went and turned
off everything in the study, but Tommy wasn’t ready to leave. Once all the
lights were out, she finally decided to “move toward the light” in the living
room. I finished shutting everything else
down and got ready for bed. Tommy stopped in to see what I was doing and then
went and sat by the bed. I got into bed and she jumped up before I had a chance
to get out her snack.
Once the snack was out and eaten, Tommy went back to the living
room and I went to bed. I know that sooner or later, Tommy will be back on the
bed to sleep.
