We wake up a little early because
we have company coming at 9:30. We complete our morning routine and I head out
to run to the bakery for something to go with the coffee. When I return Tommy
reminds me that I neglected to give her a morning massage and treats for
leaving. With preparations and duties
completed we await the arrival of our company.
My friend arrives and as always,
Tommy is a superstar. She greets my friend and is attentive throughout the
visit. She only needed to be reminded once to stay off the cocktail table on
which the bakery and our coffee is placed. She spends a bit of time sniffing my
friend’s purse but doesn’t try to investigate inside. (Perhaps that was because
all openings were closed!)
When my friend decides to leave I
figure that it’s a good time to head out for my haircut. I’m gone for over an hour, but Tommy is okay
when I return. While she seems to be a bit clingier and spends a lot of time
sniffing me to understand all the new aromas from the salon, she seems content.
While I read The Shepherd Express (finally), she lounges on the sofa and takes
a nap.
We spend much of the afternoon
lounging around. Neither one of us seems very motivated. I need to go out and
help a friend whose planning a bar crawl/great race event and Tommy doesn’t
seem to mind. I’ll only be gone a couple
of hours. When I return after the usual treat and petting we watch some
television, spend time in the closet during the German Fest fireworks, and head
for bed. It seems Tommy wants one more treat as she gets very verbal and when I
turn to watch, she uses her scratching post. She knows that praise, petting,
and a treat will follow and I of course oblige. I’m not sure if she’s still
spooked from the fireworks or me, but she heads under the bed for about ten
minutes before joining me on the bed.
