Tommy is not happy when I go into the study to print my
weekly calendar and daily puzzles. She
becomes very verbal when I return scolding me for leaving her alone in the
living room. I knew the Tommy was a “talker,”
but I never realized how verbal she really was going to be. Her sounds vary by the circumstances. She becomes my little guardian and growls
whenever there’s a noise in the hall.
Today I decided it was time to introduce her to the study. I moved the floor plants up on a TV
tray. Even though the spider plant is a
safe plant for her, I’d rather be consistent so the plant now is high up on top
of the bookshelves. I also moved the
inflatable bed away from the plants so she wouldn't have a platform to help her
reach them.
She does enjoy the study and doesn’t get in too much trouble. She enjoys hiding behind the books on the bookshelves. I also turned on the electronic keyboard, but
it appears Tommy is not musically inclined.
After stepping on some of the keys, she moved away from the keyboard and
didn't touch it again.
When I’m working on the computer she’s content to either sit
on my lap, share my chair sitting behind me, or sitting on the floor. Sometimes she likes to sit on the other chair
next to the desk and watch me. I don’t
think she completely understands the headset; she’s not sure to whom the heck I’m
talking.
Occasionally she will venture onto the desk. She usually sits between me and the keyboard
but allows me to reach around and type as needed. Other than the plants, I think she enjoys our
time in the study.
In the few days we've been together we've learned a few
things about each other. Today we both
had gas issues. Mine were rather loud
and she wondered from where that noise was coming, but it seems she’s the
princess of the SBD! I also learned that
she doesn’t care for the glass tables.
She doesn’t mind being under them and looking through them but doesn’t
like to stand on them which will be a good point.
She’s calmed down quite a bit.
I have found that when she becomes too excited, if I rub her lower neck
and chest and speak in a quiet voice, she will calm down. What I still can’t understand though is how
she can sleep with her head up!
The best things about today were that she is starting to
trust that when I leave the room, I will return.
She doesn’t have to follow me everywhere. She also licked my hand the first time. I’m not sure if she was lacking salt, I had a
good smell on my hand, or it was a loving gesture. I’ll assume it was the last one.
