Sunday, July 13, 2014

Sunday morning went by quickly. I made a couple phone calls and Tommy sat quietly and watched me talking into a piece of plastic.  She still can’t quite figure out what’s going on when I talk to either the phone or dictate on the computer.
We did have one bad experience this morning. During the fireworks on Saturday night, Tommy really dug her nails into my legs.  I knew that nail trimming was in order. Since I had never clipped a cat’s nails, I decided to watch some video clips on You Tube. There were so many different versions I was at a loss as to which one to use.  I decided on one by a veterinarian, but we weren't very successful and there was a little bit of blood. I called one of my sisters and I think I’ll be following her advice for a while. “Take her to Petco and have them do it for $10.”
Of course, I was almost as upset as Tommy was by the incident. I continued to pet and reassure her for most of the morning. It wasn't until she started licking my hand as we sat on the sofa that I knew that she thought I wasn't malicious, only inept.
Tommy gets very upset when I take too long in the shower. I really don’t take very long, but she just doesn’t seem to like the shower. I left the closet open and she went and sat in her favorite place, my sweater vest bin.  For once she didn't come into the bathroom and yell at me to hurry up. A second triumph was that she left the closet and came to the living room without me having to fetch her out of the closet.
I was meeting friends and going to a church festival, so Tommy was alone for about six hours.  When I returned I as always was reminded that Tommy doesn’t like to be left alone.  She was very indifferent to me the rest of the night. As I was talking to one of my sisters on the phone, I realized that my friend’s dogs had been “all over” my legs rubbing and licking.  I think she wasn't happy about smelling dog on me.  She again went under the bed and hid for a while, but came back up to sleep.  We’ll see what tomorrow holds.
