For a change I was the one doing the early morning waking up. I was having a bad dream involving Tommy trying to bite me and I woke up with a start which also woke up Tommy.  I really think I scared her and we spent much time trying to calm down and go back to sleep.
In the morning around 6:00 Tommy decided to get back at me and woke me up with a rather loud complaint that I was still sleeping and it was time to get up. I completed our usual routine chores and then went in the living room where Tommy was waiting. She wanted to play so we started, and at first we had a good time using some of the stuffed toys to help us play together. When she grew tired of playing with any of the toys, she wanted to play a new game called “I’ll Act Like I Want to Be Petted, But I Really Want to Bite You.”  Was she doing this because I had a dream about biting? Because I wouldn’t play her game, she started running around the condo as if being chased by an invisible pursuer. When she finally tired of that she came and sat down.
After enough time when I thought she was calm, I decided to weigh her since I was getting her a harness and leash today and wanted to make sure I didn’t have the same problem that I had with purchasing her carrier. I first tried holding her while I stood on the scale, but no matter how I tried to hold her and speak quietly and calmly, she wasn’t having anything to do with it and the scale always registered “Err.” I also tried putting a small box that she likes to sit in on a small scale and weighing it empty and then with her in it. Again, she’d have nothing to do with it. I decided that she couldn’t have gained that much weight in three weeks and would just use her weight on the vet’s notes.
After that she either followed me around yelling at me or would hide in the bedroom. I decided that this was a good time to complete all my work in peace and let Tommy (and me) calm down a little. Maybe we can quickly turn this day around and both be in a better mood. When I finish my work, I head to the bedroom and it appears all is better.  Now I have to leave to run some errands and meet friends for lunch.  I think I’m about to upset Tommy again.
When I return I get the usual reprimand, but then all is fine as Tommy signals that she’s ready to be pampered with her usual head/neck massage.  The rest of the day is spent playing, petting and lounging.  At one point Tommy joins me on the sofa and begins to make more room for herself.  She first sits between the sofa cushions and me, then progresses to gaining more room by stretching out until she finally has her paws all the way to the end and my feet head for the floor.
We head for bed a little early and I plan on reading the Shepherd Express. Well, there will be no reading tonight as Tommy decides to use the paper as an extra mattress. When she leaves the bed to grab a little late night snack, I move the paper t the end table and when she returns the lights go out and we fall asleep.
