Monday, January 5, 2015: Six Months Today

Tommy woke me up around 6:30. I can’t remember the last time I had been able to sleep that late.  I’m planning on moving the start time for the heat pump to go on at 7:00. I figure if I push it back by 5 minutes every few days, within a week or two Tommy will adjust to the change.
After she was fed she waited by the study door until I finished printing the puzzles and checking email. She then moved right to the tissue paper pile and was ready to play.  We played for a while until Tommy decided to just sit and watch me move the teaser around.  I decided to finish the morning chores. Once the blinds were raised, Tommy went to investigate what was happening outside. She sat so close to the windows which had a little ice. I thought cats searched for the warmest place.  Sometimes I think that Tommy prefers the cold.
I did some work on the laptop while sitting on the sofa. Tommy came and watched me either sitting on the end of the sofa or above on the cushion. She quickly got bored and did surveillance around the condo. She finally settled on the ottoman which gave her a good vantage point to the outside while offering a sunny warmer spot. She must have read my previous paragraph and wanted to prove me wrong.
Later in the morning I decided to brave the cold and walk to the library to return a book. When I returned, Tommy was waiting on the sofa. She came over by the tissue pile and I knew two things. First, it was time to get rid of the shredded mess of tissue and second, we needed some play time. We played first, but Tommy didn’t spend a lot of time playing amongst the tissue.  After we finished, I gathered up the tissue and put it away.
Tommy went to take a nap in the bedroom. I wasn’t sure if it was a reaction to the tissue or that she was just tired.  Later when I went to check on her, I gave her the hairball treats and she finished them and then curled back up on the bed. After my lunch, I went back to do some reading and posting. That took up much of the afternoon.
When it was time for dinner, Tommy came out to remind me.  She ate a little of her meal and then went back to the bedroom to curl up. I ate my dinner and watched some television. At one point I took Tommy’s dish to her in the bedroom after I had it on my lap for a while to lose the chill. I left it with Tommy and when I returned she had finished it.
I thought that at some point Tommy would come out to play or at least investigate, but she stayed in the bedroom. I would occasionally go in and check up on her. I made sure that if she was awake we would spend some time together.  She was grooming herself and couldn’t quite reach part of her back. I got the grooming glove and the minute she saw it, she stood up right next to me. I then brushed her as she stood there. It was the first time that she had stood up to be groomed and I was able to brush all her fur without her moving. She even raised her head so I could brush her neck. When she was done, she curled up on the bed and I went back to the living room.
Later, right as I was shutting everything down to go to bed, Tommy showed up ready to play. I was ready for bed, so I told her that she’d have to assume herself which she did. I put out her snack, and after a few minutes she came in and ate it. Then it was back to the living room for more play. At one point she decided to race around the condo including around the bed and up and down the bungalow.  Once the racing was concluded I turned off the lights. Tommy had one more round of play in the living room before joining me up on the bed. She curled up in her usual spot and we settled down to sleep.
