Tommy woke up at little after 6:00 and checked on me a few
times to ensure that I would get up at the appropriate time, if not
sooner. She went about her usual morning
grooming and also ate some dry food and had a little drink of water. Once the
heat came on, Tommy made sure that I knew that it was time to get up and feed
her.
Once she was fed, I went to the study to work on posts. After
she finished her breakfast, Tommy joined me up on the desk to give me a proper
good morning greeting. That accomplished she sat and waited for me to finish my
typing.
Tommy was waiting patiently on her pile expecting me to have
a play session, which we did. After quite an extended time, I opened the blinds
and saw the interesting pattern of ice and snow on the lagoon. I got my phone
to take a picture and as I opened the balcony door, Tommy came over and started
to walk out there. Because the balcony was icy and Tommy wasn’t tethered, I
quickly said “No,” and Tommy retreated back into the living room. Leaving the
door open, I took the picture and came inside. I went right to Tommy and
praised her for her actions.
It was time to change the sheets and since it was going to be
very cold, I brought out the flannel sheets. I wasn’t sure how Tommy would react
to them, so after putting on the sheets, I went and got Tommy. I put her on the
bed and she immediately jumped off. She
went up on the bungalow, so I tried to lure her back using the fleece teaser.
She jumped up on the bed, but again jumped right back down and returned to the
bungalow. Experiment over, it was time
to finish making the bed.
I finally finished rooting several plant slips and was able
to remove the aluminum foil from the front to the chest. I wasn’t sure when
Tommy would realize that the top of the chest was no longer off limits. I also found another small mouse/catnip toy
and gave it to Tommy. She enjoyed batting it around and playing with it.
Play time over Tommy went to check out the snow that was
falling. She would “chase” it along the balcony door as is was blown along the
balcony. She also tried to jump up and “catch” the falling flakes. I wonder if that one of the things that she
missed now that she was a house cat. I’ll bet she doesn’t miss the cold.
After spending time by the window Tommy went first to nap on
the bed and then moved to the sofa. I was working on some puzzles, so we spent
a relaxing afternoon together on the sofa. Once Tommy was fast asleep, I went
to the study to work on Grandpa’s diaries. I worked on them until it was time
to get ready to go to a performance at the Rep. with a friend.
Tommy woke and noticed the clothes that I had put out to
wear. She was not a happy girl. She had
gotten used to me staying home for the past few days and it appeared that she
liked that arrangement. I got ready and made sure that she was fed and given
plenty of attention.
When I returned Tommy was waiting for me near the door. I
made sure that we had a long play session before settling down to watch Downton
Abbey on the DVR. I must have fallen asleep during the “behind the scenes”
portion of the show because I woke up later and a different program was on T.V.
I looked around for Tommy as I shut everything down for the night.
I found her asleep on her rug in the bedroom. For a change, she hadn’t beaten me to the
bedroom. She awoke while I was getting
ready for bed, but stayed on the rug. Even after I got into bed she stayed on
the rug. I put out her snack, but she stayed on the rug. I finally got her up on the bed where she ate
her snack and then curled up by my feet. With everyone and everything in its
place, it was time to go to sleep.
