Today was the first day of the new heat pump time change. Tommy was up early and did wake me up, but she
amused herself and me until the heat pump came on at 7:00. That was her
breakfast call and she made sure that I got up and did my duty. It looks like I’ll be getting 15 more minutes
of sleep once Tommy’s internal clock makes the time adjustment.
I quickly took care of my duties and then got ready and left
to take my car in for repairs. I returned about an hour later. (I had been
given a loaner car since the repairs would take most of the day.) Tommy greeted
me and we spent the morning on the sofa and had a play session. Since it was so
sunny Tommy sat at various locations on the sofa to get the best sun while
keeping within close proximity to me.
After a very quiet afternoon, Tommy woke up and was ready to
eat. Unfortunately her dinner wasn’t warm enough yet. The grass was still out
so she could have some, but she wasn’t interested. It was probably too cold; who wants salad on
a cold winter day? Once she realized that dinner wasn’t ready, she did eat some
grass.
Having finally lost its chill, Tommy’s dinner was ready. She
ate quite a bit. Without the sun, the sofa was getting colder, so while Tommy ate,
I put the heating pad under her fleece throw and turned it on low.
When she jumped back up on the sofa she had to investigate
why the fleece was a little warmer. She spent some time “padding” around it
before settling down. Once she was
settled, she didn’t move while I was in the living room.
I went to watch the Badger basketball game in the bedroom. Tommy
came in to see what I was doing, but after she saw what I was doing, she went
back to her warm spot on the sofa where she remained for the rest of the night
except to grab some nourishment or to use the litter box.
I, of course, fell asleep while watching the news and didn’t
wake up until much later. I went to turn off everything before going back to sleep
and found Tommy still enjoying her warm spot on the sofa. Not wanting to leave the heating pad unattended
during the night, I turned it off and moved it between the fleece and the
bedspread on the bed.
Tommy came into the bedroom to check on “things” (like why
her sofa spot wasn’t as warm and why her nightly snack hadn’t been served. Once
the snack was served, Tommy discovered the warm spot in her usual spot on the
bed and curled up to resume her sleep. I went to sleep knowing that we’d both
be warm during the night.
