Tommy woke up a little earlier than normal, probably in retaliation for her late dinner last evening. Once the heat pump started, we got up and I did the morning chores.  After Tommy was fed and satisfied, she sat on her tissue paper pile which indicated to me that it was time to play. I got out her new little mouse teaser and she had a great time catching it, hitting it with her paw and chasing it (and me).
We ended up near the windows, so I opened the blinds to let in the sun.  Tommy decided that it was time to enjoy basking in the sun, so she sat in several spots before settling down on top of the sofa cushion.  I knew that if I wanted to do some reading this would be a perfect time. I also managed to get in a photo of her sitting on her favorite sunny spot.
We listened to Brahms German Requiem while I read and she sat in the sun. When I went to refill my coffee, I returned to find Tommy again sitting on her tissue paper pile. She called out to let me know that it was time for another play session.  When I brought out the fleece teaser, she immediately raised and wiggled her butt in eager anticipation of playing with her favorite toy.
Play time over, Tommy went to the study. She quickened her pace when she saw me following her. Instead of jumping on the desk, she went toward the window. I had forgotten to open that blinds, and after I opened them she went and stood by the inflatable guest bed. I had left a box on it and since this was one of her “perching” spots, I was in trouble.
When I removed the dreadful box, she didn’t jump up, but instead just moved back to the window. I sat down to type and Tommy jumped up to check on me. Once she was satisfied that all was well in the study, she left the room while I quickly finished my typing. I knew my impatient little overseer wouldn’t want me to become absorbed in my work when there were more important (i.e. her) needs to be fulfilled.
When I returned to the living room I found Tommy sitting on the floor right under where I usually sit on the sofa to read. I guessed that I needed to find a different chair. I sat nearby and read another chapter until Tommy came over and sat next to me. It was time to give Tommy some attention. After I petted her, she moved to the tissue paper pile.
We again played with the little mouse teaser, but this time Tommy was quite bit rougher. By the end of play time, the poor little mouse was missing an eye, a tail, and some of its fur. Fortunately Tommy didn’t swallow any of the pieces. She just left them on the floor for the help to handle. I hadn’t noticed the missing tail right away, but Tommy did, and sat right next to it until I picked it up.
Play time finished, Tommy went to the bedroom. I went in to make the bed and open the blinds. Tommy settled down under a table to enjoy on a favorite sunny spot. When I moved to the study, she came in and check up on me before moving back to the living room which was awash in sunlight.  She remained in the living room for a while and I brought out the grass for her lunch. After lunch Tommy was ready for a nap, but it was tooth brushing time. I picked Tommy up and brought her to the table. She was a bit fussy, but we completed the task and she was then able to have more grass if she chose and also her hairball treats which she loves.
She ate some of the treats and then came back to the tissue paper pile. She probably figured that I owed her more play time for “letting” me brush her teeth.  We played again for a while, but once Tommy decided to just sit and watch me move the teaser around, I knew that it was time to stop.
Since there wasn’t anything to amuse her, Tommy went to the bedroom to take a nap. I worked on the computer until Tommy came to remind me that it was getting close to her dinner time. I went and put out her food to warm up and then we played one more time before I had to get ready to leave. When I started putting clothes in the bathroom, Tommy went into the closet and curled up in the sweater vest bin. She hadn’t been in there for quite a while, so I wasn’t sure why she chose that spot.
When I was showered and dressed, I gave Tommy her dinner. She ate a little but then went back to the closet and jumped up on the shorts shelf. If she was trying to make me feel guilty about leaving, it was working. As I finished getting ready, Tommy moved to the living room where she sat and watched me leave.
I returned before midnight and we played one more time. I got ready for bed, got into bed, and put out her treat. I had timed it so that she would probably be up on the bed with me when the midnight fireworks would be booming.  There weren’t many and they weren’t very loud, so although she noticed them, she just sat and ate her snack and then jumped down to play in the living room.  I turned out the lights and television and was pretty confident that Tommy would again jump up on the bed and curl up near my feet when she was ready to sleep.
