Tommy woke up around 5:00 and occasionally checked in with me
to make sure that I was ready to get up when the time came. Once the heat pump
started, we got up and I did the morning chores. While Tommy ate I started my New Year’s Day
tradition of taking down and putting away all the Christmas decorations. As I worked Tommy went around to some of the
table to look at the decorations one last time.
She followed me around in the closet and throughout the
house. When I was working in the living
room, Tommy sat on her tissue paper pile. Of course, when I needed to take a
break Tommy and I had a play session. Once I was finished with that task and
could relax, Tommy decided to take a nap and went into the bedroom.
I watched the Badgers win the Outback Bowl and Tommy slept
through all the excitement. I would
occasionally go in and check on her and if she was awake we would have some
petting time. She came out later to play
and eat.
After she was fed and we had played, she camped out on the
tissue paper pile, but would saunter over to me on the sofa whenever she needed
attention. If I went to the study, she
was right behind me ready to enjoy the desk and its warm lamp. After a long
day, it was time for bed although Tommy had slept much of the day so she wasn’t
quite ready for bed.
When I put her snack on the plate on the bed, she came in and
enjoyed it before leaving again. Just as I was falling asleep, I heard her jump
on the bed and curl up by my feet. We
started the year happy to have rescued each other.
